AKS Machining was originally founded in 1996 by Directors; Steve Clark and Kenny Henshall to service the machining requirements of ABB Crewe (formerly British Rail’s well known ‘Crewe Works’).

 

The Directors, as time served engineers and experienced managers formed the Company in response to ABB’s policy of outsourcing much of its machining requirements and closure of the existing ABB Machine Shop. The Directors then shrewdly secured machines, personnel, premises, and most importantly contracts from ABB.

 

Since the early days, the Company has rapidly developed, expanding both its customer base and capabilities. This has been achieved by focusing on three main areas of the business; safety and quality management, on-time delivery to the customer and a positive but prudent approach to investing in the business.

 

A significant proportion of the company's revenue is still derived from the rail industry but the automotive, valve, and building industries, now all form a part of a wide customer base, with a significant amount of blue chip companies serviced.

 

1999 saw the introduction of a rail component refurbishment and repair facility for the rail industry, with sub-assemblies ranging from suspension units to braking equipment being overhauled. Investment in this aspect of the business has continued, with a dedicated Assembly Shop being established at the Company’s premises.
